Instructor:  Ashely Towne  WSPA Dance Faculty


Ashley Towne (she/they) has been dancing since age 5, and has been teaching and performing in the US, Asia, and Europe for over 16 years. With extensive experience in a range of styles from ballet to hip hop, she has performed in concerts, special events, music videos, promotions, and film all over the world.

Originally from Arizona, Ashley earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Northern Arizona University while establishing and participating in multiple performing dance companies. She spent several years training at professional studios and teaching and performing in Los Angeles before finding her way to lovely Seattle.

Her commitment to social and racial justice, community care, and interpersonal connection inform her teaching style and class culture. Ashley’s unique, playful style also reveals the sense of humor and genre-defying creativity that characterize her teaching, choreography, and commitment to dance as a mode of joy.


Attire: Loose fitting clothing that easy to move in and tap shoes. Hair ack and no jewelry.


Pre-Teen Contemporary
Contemporary dance encourages individual artistic freedom. This class will include a stretch and strength building warm up. The majority of class will be spent learning combinations, there will sometimes be across the floor work as well. Contemporary dance blends many different types of movement ranging from ballet to social dance to hip hip to pedestrian movement and theatrics, and more. Students will become more spatially and body aware through their use of strength, emotion, and creative and dynamic movement. This style of dance has many cultural roots, some include Black, Native American, Indian and Japanese.
